Environment
At Turning Leaf we believe that good business also means good stewardship to the environment around us. Manufacturing has long been the cause of pollution and excessive carbon emissions. We firmly believe that responsible environmental behaviour and sound business decisions can comfortably co-exist. Accordingly we are increasingly mindful that our practices and methods are in line with our responsibility to the needs of future generations. Detailed below are just a number of practices that we now have in place.
Wood
We will only source our timber from merchants who subscribe to the relevant sustainable forest initiatives. We will not obtain timber from any timber merchants who do not have such a policy in place.
We look to recycle all off cuts, worn machine parts and waste materials. Unfortunately not all waste is able to be recycled and these are separated and disposed of professionally.
Acrylic
Likewise, all acrylic waste is recycled and used again. At Turning Leaf we also are mindful of the development of new materials which will one day replace acrylic and give a more sustainable alternative. To date, no such material has been firmly established although the process is well advanced.
Metal
Again all metal waste is retained, separated and recycled. One main environmental consideration in our metal work is the finishing of the products. We insist that all of our metal products are finished with a “powder coated” finish. Powder coatings emit zero or near zero volatile organic compounds. Additionally, powder coating overspray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve nearly 100% use of the coating.
General
Outside of the workshop we look to recycle all materials possible. This includes 100% paper, cardboard and packaging recycling. Where possible we will email invoices, purchase orders and other day to day documents. Turning Leaf do not produce any paper brochures preferring to rely on the PDF alternatives. We also encourage our employees to travel to work in the most environmentally friendly way.
